Mega Fortris is now a Proud Member of TAPA!

Mega Fortris Europe is one of the leading security seal suppliers – has become a TAPA SSP member. 1st March 2016 marks an exciting milestone for Mega Fortris Europe and the members of the Transported Asset Protection Association (TAPA). Becoming a member of TAPA means that we now will be even more involved in the worldwide cargo protection industry, providing expertise in dealing with current supply chain issues. The membership also provides an excellent opportunity to brand our name on a European or even global level.

The Transported Asset Protection Association (TAPA) is a unique forum that unites global manufacturers, logistics providers, freight carriers, law enforcement agencies, and other stakeholders with the common aim of reducing losses from international supply chains.

Today, in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, The Americas and Asia, TAPA’s membership is at its highest level ever and growing. The Association’s 600+ members include many of the world’s leading manufacturing brands, as well as, their logistics and transport providers with combined annual sales of over US$900 billion.

Mega Fortris Europe believes the TAPA membership will present the opportunity to communicate with the members by offering best practices, guidance and share knowledge on security issue incidents. Mega Fortris aim is therefore to raise the security standards and procedures among the members of TAPA.

TAPA can therefore benefit from the Mega Fortris membership through our vast expertise within the security seal and load securing industry. At the networking events, Mega Fortris Europe can also introduce existing partners who could also see the benefits of joining TAPA in the future. This should increase the memberships of TAPA and create a strong foundation for the future.

In recent years we have seen a dramatic growth in the use of Halal food across the world. This includes major countries across Western Europe including the United Kingdom, Norway, Denmark, Germany, France and many other regions. The use of Halal food in commercial industries has always been a challenge for businesses in western countries.

However, organisations have acknowledged the growing demand to supply Halal Food, and are making efforts to provide for this demand. Becoming a Halal Food approved supplier isn’t as easy as it seems. Many consumers have found not all suppliers are following the correct procedures in preparing the food, such as not using the approved equipment required to process Halal food. Those that do process Halal food only focus on the processing of the food itself, which does not count towards being Halal food approved.

Halal food regulations clearly state the organisation must follow the correct processing procedures of the food, and also use the approved equipment to process the Halal food. With this in mind companies have found short supply of approved equipment for processing Halal food such as Packaging, and Sealing tools. These are the main two equipments which come directly in contact with the food. Therefore it is very important for these two products to meet the Halal Regulations.

In order to provide for the developing Halal market, Mega Fortris has developed a pull tight seal for use in the Food Industry. The Fast seal is available in different versions and can be made to different lengths and colours. The raw materials from our supplier were already approved by governing food authorities including the Food & Drug Administration (FDA). And have recently been accepted in the Halal Food industry as an approved manufacturer for the plastic. This means that the Fast Seal and other plastic security seals in our product range can be used for securing Halal foods.

Furthermore the supplier of the plastic which we use to manufacture our seals have recently stated in an article that their products have been approved by the Iraqi Embassy in Denmark with the Fast Seal the first choice seal to be used for all forms of Halal Foods processing, Packing and transportation. The unique features of the fast seal make it the ultimate seal for meat tagging when going through the Halal Meat procedures. The security seal tag allows serial numbering and bar-coding to be laser marked on the surface of the seals to ensure each batch of seal is unique. This ensures efficient monitoring of meat and shows any signs of tampering at the same time.

The Fast seal is extremely versatile as it can be placed on various applications due to its strength and durability allowing the user to know if the application has been tampered with, without allowing easy access to the application itself.

Features:

  • The Fast Seals are etched with permanent laser marking for names offers highest level of security as it cannot be removed and replaced.
  • Heat staking technology is used to permanently fix the cap to the Fast Seal. With the resulting bonds, heat staked parts cannot be cut or forced open without leaving clear evidence of tampering.
  • A floating metal clip is securely shielded by a cap, providing great locking strength and security.
  • The Various length and thickness of the Fast seal give the user a choice to match different applications.

Though Mega Fortris are already using material to manufacture their seals which the supplier states has been approved by the Iraqi Embassy in Denmark we are still working towards becoming more Halal Foods friendly. Even though we are already FDA approved we believe we can do more to ensure we are able to provide seals to all types of industries. While the development of the 2K Klicker it was very important to ensure the seal was tamper evident and to ensure this there were two main features applied to the seal. The first feature is the 1 way locking system. This stops the twist and spin attacks on the seal. The second feature is the feature which allows the user to clearly view if the seal has been tampered with. If anyone tries to break the seal the outer plastic shell cracks but does not break allowing the driver to see of the seal has been tampered with. In addition to this though the plastic shall cracks the metal pin inside stays intact providing maximum strength.

The features of the 2K Klicker include:

  • Hardened steel pin and bush for added security.
  • The pin and bush are moulded with high-impact ABS to provide high tamper evidence.
  • Oval-shaped pin and bush to mitigate ‘spin attacks’. The anti-locking mechanism prevents friction and only allows 1-way locking.
  • Identical sequential numbers on both parts provide greater security as it prevents parts substitution or replacement.
  • Engraved paired pin and bush for easier handling.
  • The bush is etched with name, logo, sequential numbering and barcode using permanent laser marking. Laser marking offers the highest level of security as it cannot be removed or replaced.
  • Two colours for improved product definition, visibility and identification, marking variations and increased operation efficiency.

Our First move to Going Green!

Organisations are currently struggling to work with the government, shareholders and the local community to ensure they are able to meet their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) targets. Many organisations believe what they are currently doing in regards to making sure they minimise waste and ensure a better future for the next generation is enough to keep them going and essentially keep the local community and shareholders happy. Corporate Social Responsibility isn’t something you do once or twice or take one step to make yourself look better; it’s something all organisations should be always working. Looking for ways to improve their business processes to ensure lower waste or ensure the resources you do use are in one way or another given back to the community.

One of the more recent changes Mega Fortris have made is a change which is a tough one for most organisations and in fact many organisations may actually steer away from this as it has a direct impact on their customers. However after careful consideration Mega Fortris has decided to place a greener future before our own customers. Now you may be wondering what this change is, well let us explain.

When Mega Fortris deliver their High Quality Security Seals to their customers, not all of them know exactly how to use the seal correctly; and so as a kind gesture we were providing all customers with Paper Based locking instructions to show them how to place a seal on correctly. However after an in-depth analysis we have decided Mega Fortris will no longer be providing paper based locking instructions for customers with their seals.

Instead we have decided to place all locking instructions online, where all customers will be able to access these via a QR Code we provide them with along with the seals. Now you must be thinking “Well! Yes I guess it’s a start however will it make much of a difference?” Allow us to explain, Mega Fortris provide over 2.5 million seals per year; now if you think about all the different customers these get distributed to is an overwhelming figure. So though it may seem like a small step it makes a HUGE difference in the amount of paper we use, ensuring fewer trees are cut.

Though the customers may believe it makes the process a little longer for them to gain locking instructions, we believe otherwise. This is because now that we have placed all locking instructions online all customers are able to access these wherever and whenever they wish to view them.

In essence Mega Fortris have had to make big changes to make this happen and we hope to see a greener future for Mega Fortris and we also urge others to take however small step towards becoming an environmentally friendly organisation.

At Mega Fortris we do not claim to be the guru’s of going environmentally friendly, nor do we believe we are the only ones trying to make a change. We simply believe any step an organisation takes towards becoming environmentally friendly should be supported through a Top Down view; Meaning many Senior Executives within organisation believe they are going green by ensuring they place limitations on wastage and resources being used on the people at the bottom of the hierarchy. But forget to follow the rules themselves. However at Mega Fortris we believe in more of a Top Down view where the senior executives themselves have made changes in their own processes. Then also brought changes in the rest of the business to ensure the organisation as a whole are working towards a more environmentally friendly organisation.
